Proposed solution to polymerization contraction - resin composite sandwich.

Dr. Daniel Černý

Ever since dentist started to use resin composite, they face two main problems. Adhesion to dental structures and material shrinkage. And while dentinal adhesion is relatively well defined already, the resin shrinkage is yet to be solved. So far the best solution has been described as incremental layering which prevents dramatic consequences of resin shrinkage in cavities with high c-factor. One of the other less used methods to fight contraction of resin is using chemically cured resin composites for the core of the filling. And since the physical properties of chemically or dual-cured resin composites has improved, the technique should be considered as valuable option. Method is described in models and clinical cases.
